Call for Submissions

Fear Fete is celebrating its third year as one of the country's premier independent film festival for horror submissions. The Mississippi Gulf Coast will host the 2013 film festival accepting horror micro short, short, and feature length films. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Grand 18 in D'Iberville, MS October 18th-20th.

All submissions will be scored by our panel of judges and selected films for the festival will be announced after the Late Entry Deadline and once all films have been scored. All selections will be placed by genre in blocks of of films during the festival (i.e. Zombie Block, Thriller Block, Horror Comedy, etc). Each block will contain a micro-short, short, and feature length film.

All selected films will receive an award and will be eligible for the top awards, including Best Feature, Best Short, Best Micro-Short. Awards will be presented during the festival kick-off party. Someone representing the film must be present to receive an award.

If your film is accepted into the festival, you will given a limited number of VIP passes and be invited to the kick-off awards party.

Entry Rules

  • To be accepted, submitted films must be completely edited and in their final completed form. Rough cuts or unfinished material will not be considered. 
  • Films must have been released after January 1, 2010. Please no films from 2009 or later.
  • At least one member of the film crew should be in attendance at the festival to accept an award and discuss the film during audience Q&A. You will not receive an award unless a crew member is in attendance. We do not mail awards.
  • Film premieres are not required, but are strongly preferred. Premiering films will be one of the factors considered when determining a film’s inclusion in the Festival. 
  • Films must not have had any commercial theatrical or television play in the United States. However, films with online/VOD play are allowed.
  • Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English for Festival presentation.
  • Films CANNOT have an acquisition/distribution deal in the United States before August 1, 2013
  • Films submitted CANNOT have been funded in any way by any the defined "Major" or "Mid-Major" film studios and its subsidiaries listed below:

  2. Warner Brothers Pictures (Subsidiaries: Warner Independent Pictures, New Line Cinema, HBO Films, Turner, DC)
  3. Sony/Columbia Pictures (Subsidiaries: Sony Classics, Screen Gems, TriStar, Sony Animation, Destination, Triumph)
  4. Walt Disney Pictures (Subsidiaries: LucasFilms, Touchstone Pictures, Pixar, Disney Animation, Marvel, Disneynature)
  5. Universal Pictures (Subsidiaries: Focus Features, Universal Animation, Illuminationation Entertainment, Working Title Film)
  6. 20th Century Fox (Subsidiaries: Fox Searchlight, Fox Animation, Fox Faith, Blue Sky, New Regency)
  7. DreamWorks (Pictures & Animation)

Film Submissions

Filmmakers who submit their work earlier have the opportunity to be judged by more members of our panel for possible inclusion. Get your film in as soon as possible! (Deadline Dates and Fees subject to change at any time.)

Any film submitted after Julyb12, 2013 may not be eligible for inclusion.

Shipping & Payments

Entry Films:  Cost of shipping "Screeners" is the responsibility of the entrant unless a request is made prior to the entry. Screeners must be in DVD format (No BluRay or Electronic Files) and be sent to the festival prepaid. The festival cannot accept responsibility for damage or loss of materials while in transit. Please use only plastic or bubble pack cases when shipping entries.

Selected Films: Cost of shipping exhibition prints to the festival is the responsibility of the entrant unless a request is made prior to entry. Final exhibition copies (Menuless BluRay or DVD) will be required after notice of selection and must be sent to the festival prepaid.

All film submissions must include a hard-copy screener and entry fee (paid in full) for the film to be considered for possible submission into the festival. We accept checks, money orders, and credit card payments. Your submission does not guarantee it will be presented at our festival as spots are limited.

Submissions Materials

  • Completed entry form (submitted online).
  • DVD Screener (Region 0 or 1, NTSC) mailed, prepaid.
  • No press kits to be submitted in the submission process.

Confirmation

  • Please enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard or email us if you wish to receive confirmation that your entry has been received. Please DO NOT ask for signature confirmation for your entry, although you may ask for a delivery confirmation.

Return of Submission

  • Due to the large number of entries received, submission materials will not be returned.

Selection and Notification

  • Final programming decisions are made by the festival directors.
  • Festival selections will be announced 45 days prior to the film festival. Selections will be notified viia email and formal acceptance letters.
  • If selected, filmmakers will be required to provide a final screening format at least two weeks prior to festival.
  • If selected, filmmakers will be required to submit a film cover/poster graphic and any press information.
  • Filmmakers may be asked to cooperate in video/editorial interviews, bios, etc for festival content.
  • We do not pay rental fees for selected films that have been submitted.
  • By submitting, you grant Fear Fete the right to use all submitted materials including, but not limited to DVD's, video footage/files, photographs, promotional items, etc. at our discretion for the promotional and screening use of the festival.
